Lumwana Mining Company is seeking a passionate and driven Geotechnical Engineer Intern (LEP – Short Term) to join its dynamic Project Department. This role provides hands-on field experience and exposure to one of Africa’s leading copper mining operations.
Ideal for recent graduates in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or Geology, this internship supports geotechnical site investigations as part of the Lumwana Expansion Project.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
- Assist with borehole logging, test pits, and sample collection
- Participate in field testing operations (SPT, DCP, DPSH, etc.)
- Observe drilling and geotechnical mapping activities
- Prepare daily field logs, drilling reports, and maintain data
- Collaborate with senior engineers in analyzing field data
- Comply with all HSE policies and site safety protocols
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Geology or related fields
- Basic knowledge of soil/rock classification & testing
- Passion for outdoor fieldwork
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with Vulcan, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, AcQuire is a plus
- Registered or eligible with EIZ
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent teamwork, communication & problem-solving skills
